Everything We Know About The Ford Transit Custom in Canada
Posted on February 3, 2023
The eagle-eyed people over at Motor1 caught the new Ford Transit Custom being transported without camouflage. We don’t get to see a great deal in the image but what we do see, looks pretty good!
The new Ford Transit is being developed with Volkswagen. That means the next generation VW Transporter cargo van will use the same or similar chassis and running gear.
The VW T7 passenger and combi are using a Volkswagen platform but the cargo version will be part Transit. That’s sure to annoy the thousands of Transporter fans across the world who always thought their vans superior to the Ford!
The Custom is often the van to get when you mix work with life. It looks meaner, has more options and can balance the driving characteristics of a car and a van.
We can’t wait for this next generation Ford Transit Custom!
2021 Ford Transit
If you’re looking for a pure work van, you can’t get much better than the standard 2021 Ford Transit. It’s comfortable, has great road manners, competent engines and a car like driving experience. What’s not to love?
Ford has the full size van market sewn up with the Transit. It’s practical, flexible and comes in hundreds of variations covering everything from full cargo vans to box wagons and tippers.
There is a Transit for almost every conceivable use.
The 2021 Ford Transit doesn’t change much from the previous version. It can carry more, up to almost 5,000 kg, and comes in three new colours. Single wheel versions also get a new electronic parking brake.
Otherwise, the Transit is largely the same. Which is a good thing we think.
It’s still as handsome as ever. With an attractive front end and grille. It still has that huge windshield offering impressive views and still has a ton of space in back.
Engine and drivetrain
The 2021 Ford Transit has two engine options. A 3.5-litre V6 with 275 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque or a turbocharged version of the same engine with 310 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.
Both use Ford’s 10 speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.
Handling is good, with little bounce when empty and excellent stability in a range of conditions. While large, the Transit is relatively easy to park too.
Safety and features
The 2021 Transit comes with forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning as standard, with adaptive cruise control as an option.
Options include an 8” touchscreen, Sirius satellite radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, WiFi and a range of other additions.
Whether you go for the Transit Custom or the standard van, you’re getting a great vehicle for the money. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to see the current deals you can get for your new Transit!
