Ram Promaster Camper Conversion Kit: A Quick Look
Posted on April 2, 2020
What better way to spend your time at home than planning a vacation for when things return to normal? What better way to spend any excess time you have than converting a standard Ram ProMaster panel van into a fully functional camper?
The Ram ProMaster is an excellent van for all kinds of tasks, from couriers to contractors, we see hundreds of these vans on the road every day. That means used vans are cheap and plentiful. Add a camper conversion kit and you could have your very own camper van for post-COVID staycations.
A new camper van can cost in excess of $50,000. A professional conversion could cost anything up to $30,000. A kit from this company can covert a Ram ProMaster 1500 or 2500 high top for less than $10,000.
The kits are made in the US but can ship across North America. Kits include flooring with storage, wall and roof panelling with insulation, shelving, a galley kitchen with clean and grey water, a sleeping platform, boot box and privacy options for rear windows and up front.
There are also extras you can bolt onto your camper including vents, more storage, folding tables and other cool stuff. The kit is basic but good quality and serves as a great base for you to build on to further convert your van.
2020 Ram ProMaster
The 2020 Ram ProMaster is an excellent work van that delivers the goods, literally. It doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles as other vans but if you’re using it for work, you don’t need them as what this van does, it does very well indeed.
The ProMaster is a full size panel van with opening rear doors and sliding side door. It has a lot of space inside, a rear step for easy loading and minimal intrusions into the rear to maximize cargo capacity. It is rated to carry 4,680 pounds internally. It also has a tow rating of up to 6,800 pounds with the factory-fitted trailer hitch.
Up front is a 3.6-litre V6 engine that generates 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels.
Seating up front is high and has excellent visibility out front and to the sides. The front screen is huge and lets a lot of light into the cabin. The cabin can be barebones or very comfortable depending on how you specify it.
There is a reversing camera as standard on all ProMaster vans. This makes maneuvering and loading easy. The display feeds into the touchscreen on the centre stack which also doubles as infotainment.
The 2020 Ram ProMaster drives well whether fully loaded or empty and has good balance on the road. There is a bit of noise from the rear when driving but this is true for all vans. Driving around town is easy and the van handles highways with equal ease.
The 2020 Ram ProMaster makes a great van. Either as a workday van or as a donor for a campervan conversion. Check out new and certified used ProMaster vans at Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON L7N 3V8.
